Communion/ koinonea

“The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen” (2 Corinthians 13: 14, emphasis added).

The Apostle Paul was a forerunner during his time in explaining and expounding upon mystical experiences with the Holy Spirit. He often used the words fellowship and communion to describe his interactions with the unseen realm. Over and over again throughout the epistles you can see him trying to convey this message to those he was connected with in the spirit. That there was a higher realm of relationship one could posses with the Holy Spirit. There is a place of prayer where you begin to be submerged into His presence.

In that place, God starts to speak to you, as we’ve discussed. Please note, it isn’t a mere verbal communication, but one that is spirit to Spirit. The Greek word for communion in the verse above is koinonea. The word koinonea means six things.

They are:

  1. Presence
  2. Fellowship
  3. The sharing of one’s self
  4. Participation
  5. Intimacy
  6. Communion

That is what the Spirit of God desires to have with you. These things begin to happen when the Holy Spirit has friendship with you.”

Apostolic Blessing and Conclusion

20 Now may the God who brought us peace by raising from the dead our Lord Jesus Christ so that he would be the Great Shepherd of his flock; and by the power of the blood of the eternal covenant 21 may he work perfection into every part of you giving you all that you need to fulfill your destiny. And may he express through you all that is excellent and pleasing[a] to him through your life-union with Jesus the Anointed One who is to receive all glory forever! Amen! Read full chapter
